I also don't approve of people being vegetarians for the sake of "not hurting the cute little animals." But this kind of thing, cropping and docking, even when done by a paid professional expert, seems completely unnatural and unnecessary. BUT... Remember the religious fun-fest called circumcision. These kinds of things fall into the "well, it's been done for a long time... that's why we do it" umbrella. I guess our generation is just too analytical to accept that answer.
