.:the 2008 xB and new xD:.
here’s the new xD

and here’s the 2008 xB:

they just released this stuff at the detroit auto show. i happen to work on a project called ‘winding road‘, which is why i know this. if you have any interest in cars, you should check it out. you can get a free online magazine, and most of their web content is pretty compelling. i’m not just saying that because i work on it; rather, i happen to like cars, and think they have an interesting perspective.
when the scions first came out, specifically the xA, it took a little while to grow on me. i wasn’t sure if i liked a vehicle that basically looked like a baby foot on wheels. and then i realized that they really had captured something cool and different. it’s small…decently built…has all kinds of cool options and customization features…has a good sound system…is built by toyota…and is super cheap. you could get a pretty decked out scion for around 12K or so. and there is a lot more room in it than you think. i think i read at one point that there is actually more room in it than a 4 door civic. don’t quote me on that…it’s either a two door or a four door…i just can’t remember for sure…
so it appears that the xD is going to take the xA’s place, which, by all appearances, is going to be awesome. i think it looks damn cool for that kind of car. you know, i’ve always kind of liked the mazda 5s (they look like sporty station wagons…and they are now called mazda 3s with a hatch)…but i haven’t been completely sold because it’s a…uh…sporty station wagon. and i just can’t get past that. this takes out some of the length and adds some aerodynamic funk, yo’….and that’s sweet.
and then they released the xB, and as much as i’ve tried to make myself like them, i just can’t do it. i don’t mind boxy. as a matter of fact, i would have purchased an element had they had a good lease special going on. but the xB i’ve never been able to like; it’s waaaay too boxy. however…this new model is pretty amazing looking. it’s still boxy, but it has some style now. little more aerodynamic, more horses under the hood, a foot longer, and flat folding seats…all huge, huge improvements in my book. i think it’s going to stay in approximately the same price range too (right around 14-16K-ish for a base model). and i need to repeat that it’s a toyota…
go to scion.com if you want to learn a little more. if anything, it’s a cool site.

if it burns rice, i like it
