Okay…so…it’s probably no big secret that I lean left of center. It’s also probably no secret that I think Barack Obama is the man. However, I think if he does happen to lose the Democratic nomination, I’m going to have a personal crisis on my hands.
I think Hillary Clinton is kind of lame. I hate to say it, but she sounds like every other politician I’ve heard speak…meaning that she sounds as if she is being fed lines through a little earpiece.
Case in point - last night she took a low-blow swipe at Mr. Obama when she said the following:
“If your candidacy is going to be about words then they should be your own words…Lifting whole passages from someone else’s speeches is not change you can believe in, it’s change you can Xerox.”
OK, Hill…check it, yo:
Hillary, 2008 line:
“You know, the hits I’ve taken in life are nothing compared to what goes on every single day in the lives of people across our country.”
Bill, 1992 line:
”The hits that I took in this election are nothing compared to the hits the people of this state and this country have been taking for a long time.”
You suuuuuuuuuck…

Sorry, don’t really agree with you about Obama. Hillary scares me, Huckabee scares the shit out of me, but Obama has this blind “say what they want to hear”ness that scares me. The one that scares me the most is “If i’m made president, ExxonMobil will no longer have those $4billion profits.” Translation: we’re going to tax the hell out of them to make up for the government’s deficit. Great, Exxon, being a business, is going to “pass the savings onto me” in higher-still gas prices, as well as higher food prices due to higher shipping costs, etc, etc, etc… That blatant disregard for economics really scares me. Anyone who’s done a little research knows that Exxon doesn’t make their money at the pump, but all we can hope for is that stupidity is just another empty “no new taxes” speech.
meh…everyone entitled to their opinion. i think what you’re saying is a fair concern. his words could certainly be taken as such. but you could also say the same for people like martin luther king…or john f. kennedy…or dwight eisenhowever. does it hurt to think that maybe…just maybe…this is someone who could potentially inspire a little change in politics? i’m not so naïve to think that obama ISN’T a trained politician and that he doesn’t have a team of people thinking for him about most of the words he is going to speak. but i choose to think that his heart and mind are there behind those words the majority of the time. he doesn’t ‘autoanswer’ everything that is thrown at him. i think we’re so used to hearing ‘political speak’ that when we hear someone who appears to have some heart that we automatically get wary and defensive.
i disagree with you on the exxon thing. i hate to burst your bubble, but gas prices are going to go higher whether or not exxon is getting extra-special taxed or not. period. and all of the things you say will come to pass regardless. and big business will still be raking in the cash while people like myself and you (middle class america), senior citizens and the poor continue to bare the tax burden.
the point of that remark by obama is to illustrate that that the system is WAY out of balance right now because the people that really need to have tax relief are getting screwed really hard while businesses are getting all kinds of swell tax breaks and CEOs are getting huge bonus checks. that’s angering. if it’s not going to be big business taking the tax brunt to fix the massive bush screw -up, who is it going to CONTINUE to be? me? you? yes…we’re ALL going to be paying for it, but the fact of the matter is that i’d rather be paying a more realistically distributed share of it now so that later, government can provide EVERYONE with programs that will help even out the playing field for the poor/working class.
obviously we’re both right. it just scares me (and it’s going to continue to do so)… did you ever see the family guy where lois is running for mayor against adam west and just runs her campaign on saying “9/11″? it’s a little like that. but part of becoming a corporation (which i recently did) has you sign papers with the government stating you will do anything for your company that is in the best interest of its shareholders, which directly translates to maximizing profits. heavily taxing a company like that to solve problems is as short sighted as saying raising minimum wage will help lower class. when mcdonalds has to pay little jimmy $7/hr instead of $6/hr, the price of everything goes up, so you don’t really get a raise, the value of the dollar just goes down.
ramble ramble ramble….
this election’s going to be scary, period. we can only hope that whoever gets in there doesn’t immediately evacuate the troops from overseas, because while you can agree or disagree with sending them in the first place, “bringin’ our troops home immediately” will hurt more than our wallets… we (america) fucked up bad there, and that can’t be fixed by higher taxes or empty promises.
*looks on ebay for bomb shelters
is this the part where we say:
““No matter what happens in this contest I am honored. I am honored to be here with [insert name here]. Whatever happens, we’re going to be fine. I just hope that we’ll be able to say the same thing about the American people, and that’s what this election should be about.”
Just when it couldn’t get worse… Nader throws his hat back into the ring.

I love how Mike Huckabee is happy about it. We should just move to Iceland or something.
